An intriguing paradox occurred in 20th century history of art – Jews, whose culture traditionally avoided displaying images – were the main influencers on the development of visual arts of their time. A small antique shop in Paris, where the young Georges Wildenstein began selling engravings, over time became an empire that determined trends and tastes of collectors from around the world.
