Purim, Carnival, and Ciphers in Art (Lecture in Russian)

Friday, 14.3.25 // 10:00

Lecture by Tatiana Savin. Language: Russian

Artists are full of riddles. Over time, they have depicted Purim without mentioning it, and embedded ciphers and secrets in their works.

We will unravel the layers of meaning and focus on what is hidden from our eyes in paintings, sculptures, and other works of art.

We will talk about works where masks speak more clearly than the faces – only art conservators managed to decipher the true intention. About the way artists transformed the Purim tradition into works full of symbolism and hidden hints, sometimes having no direct connection to Purim at all. We will explore works where faces are covered – but the truth is revealed:

After the lecture, a guided tour in the museum will be held, in Russian.
