Ashkenazi Cuisine: Tradition on a Plate

Sunday, 23.2.25 // 19:00

A culinary lecture – a master class with tasting, dedicated to Family Day as part of the “Kitchen Stories” festival by FOODISH – the culinary department of ANU museum, supported by Nadav Foundation. The event will be led by cultural anthropologist and historian Anna Litvina-Semenova and journalist and culinary expert Lika Dlugach.

During the event we will discuss the history of Ashkenazi cuisine, explore when, how, and why Gefilte Fish appeared on our great-grandmothers’ tables, how Galen’s teachings influenced Forshmak, what Latkes were like before they became potato pancakes. We will also talk about who received challah and how one could avoid it, as well as the real Tzimmes of knowledge about the dishes we’ve loved since childhood. We’ll also taste the food and, of course, enjoy it with excellent wine.

Join a guided tour at the museum in Russian prior to the event (at 17:00).
