International Museum Day

International Museum Day is held each year in May, in order to raise awareness about the fact that, “Museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, cooperation and peace among peoples.”

This year’s theme, set by ICOM is Museums for Research and Study.

On May 9 you will enjoy the following benefits:

  • Free entrance from 1pm
  • ANU Museum will be open until 8pm
  • Guide tour at 5pm – free of charge, no registration needed (in Hebrew)
  • A discount at the museum shop

In addition, three fascinating lectures will be held for a 10 NIS fee:

  • 13:30pm – Jewish Family Names. With Hagar Doron, Director of Databases, ANU Museum (in Hebrew). Click to register
  • 3:30pm – Food, Identity and Jewish Culture. With Merav Oren, Director, FOODISH by ANU Museum (in Hebrew). Click to register
  • 6pm – Codex Sassoon – a gallery talk on the earliest most complete edition of the Hebrew bible, with curator Irit Shapira Meir (in Hebrew). Click to register.
